My Version of Desh Bhakti

DeshBhakti

Often heard during the following days every year - 14-16 August, 24-26 January, and sometimes during October 2nd and January 31st.

On August 15th and January 26th, most of us hoist the national flag in our locality or visit the nearby schools, listen to the speeches given by people (don't know how many of them are worthies), salute the flag, sing Jana Gana Mana, take the sweets and come back to home, blast the system and the politicians for a while and have a sumptuous meal, take a brief nap, go for an evening movie, eat outside, comeback and sleep immediately to wake up to face another intriguing day.

Most of us neither remember the great sacrifices of our great leaders nor try to work for the betterment of the society during days other than the ones mentioned above. Everyone of us lambastes the system and our so called leaders and behave as though nothing can be done by us.

What I believe is one need not be a politician or a soldier protecting the country to show Deshbhakti. Everyone can contribute in his/her own way and each and every minute toward the development of the country. For me Deshbhakti is showing respect for our country and this can be done (apart from hoisting flag and attending celebrations at the stadiums) by doing some simple things daily - helping fellow human beings, taking care of the environment and family (from small kids to old parents), obeying law (right from traffic rules), spreading good things and importantly being genuine. Though the list can be extended, these are simple things that one can follow without investing much time and undergoing pain.

Yours truly might not be a worthy person (as I have not been attending flag hoisting sessions during the last few years) to give bhaashans but since I follow some of the things that I have mentioned above (and since this is my blog) I have taken the liberty to give a small bhaashan on Deshbhakti

It's not that difficult to be a good citizen, but people make it tough for themselves. And only they are to blame for it.

Bienvenido!
