Congratulations to Abhinav Bindra, the first Indian ever to win an individual Olympic gold medal.
There was a column in a Telugu daily a couple of weeks back in which athletes blamed lack of government support for their poor performance during big events. And this is true. The government remembers athletes only before major events like National games, Asian games and Olympics.
Coming from an affluent family, Bindra could afford such a costly affair (I take away nothing from his effort). But it's important that the government lends support to more athletes and provides them with all amenities required to groom their talent. There are columns written in newspapers about poor and talented athletes and sportsmen but it's very seldom that we see some action being taken.
You and I cannot do much except to live in hope that the situation improves.
