"Koorcho. Nenu Telugu lone cheppindi koorcho (Sit. I said it in your mother tounge Telugu) ," yells James Bond in the climax of his latest flick.
Like the poorly dubbed dialog, the movie also falls flat except for a few bang bang scenes. The movie starts exactly one hour after Bond injures and captures Mr.White in Casino Royale. The story takes a new trajectory when White escapes and M's faithful officer Craig Mitchell turns traitor. Bond goes in pursuit of Craig's employer.
By interval, which was forced by the theater after one hour, no one could get the crux of what was happening on the screen. By then Bond was already involved in three action episodes, visited three countries and the villain talked about toppling government in Bolivia. Most of our movie-watching effort went in remembering names of umpteen number of characters and countries introduced at will and wish, and one action episode erased everything from our brains.
Daniel Craig, with his pursed lips, looks rugged and wounded during most part of the film. The bond girls are as submissive as always, but the Telugu version saw most of the romantic shots getting censored even before they started. The action sequences are too fast to follow, especially the opening car chase and the boat fight. The flight episode is a regular Bond stuff. The climax is short and sour and the villain is heavily underutilized. Most of the time, Bond is shown killing people whom he is expected to submit as evidence and facing wrath of M, traveling from one country to another, and getting injured. Like in Casino Royale, the traditional Bond leitmotif is played only after the movie. It's only towards the fag end of the movie that we managed to comprehend the purpose of the whole attempt.
However, the following scenes stand out.
1. Action episode in Italy where Bond chases Mitchell, and
2. The opera episode where Quantum members plan their next move.
However, by the end of the movie White is still at large and Bond signals that he would see the end of all other Quantum members. Meanwhile, he also manages to get hold of his girlfriend Vesper Lynd's former lover.
All in all, it's pretty ordinary fare, watch it at home. (Rating: 2.75/5)
