I am neither an avid fan nor a vehement criticizer of the V-Day, but believe that it is meaningless to allocate a day for spreading love or expressing your love. This is akin to hoisting a flag to display patriotism during a National Festival and awakening your desh bhakti only after one year.
This day is a huge bonus for greeting card companies, gift shops, pubs and disco centers. With our X-gen and Y-gen going the US way, there is no stopping these mad fellas when it comes to spending money. May be the ongoing economic crisis should at least put a lid on their expenditure on this V-day. This day is also conveniently inserted in Indian movies to facilitate a few romantic moments, often poorly handled, between the lead pair.
As for opposers of this day, it's is not fair to allow our country men to work in western companies for survival, yet ask them to refrain from inheriting a few attractive and convenient practices like the V-day.
Hope a peaceful Valentine's Day celebration in India.
