I write to the Oxfords and the Cambridges to add names like Anbumani Ramdoss, Dayanidhi Maran, Murasoli Maran and Karunanidhi (all from Tamil Nadu) to the list of synonyms for chauvinist.
The post is with reference to the new law by name - All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, and Post Graduate Institute for Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh (Amendment) Act, 2007 - which was amended by Thiru Anbumani Ramdoss to vent his anger against the AIIMS director Mr.Venugopal.
The new law, which was signed by our president, Mrs.Rubber Stamp Patil, limits the tenure of the directors of the above mentioned institutes to a maximum of five years or till they reach the retirement age of 65, whichever is earlier.
Mr.Venugopal, aged 66, was appointed as the director in 2003 and will complete his tenure in July 2008. But according to the new law, which has come into force since Saturday, Mr.Venugopal cannot continue as the Director. A message was sent to AIIMS saying that Mr.Dogra, who is the current dean of the institute, will take charge as the Director from Saturday.
It is evident that the amendment is the result of the ongoing spat between Venugopal and Ravandoss, but it seems our president had no problems in approving it.
Mr.Venugopal has appealed in the Supreme Court which will deliver its verdict on Monday. Wish him good luck.

In our country, acts can be made or dispelled for one's own motives...!

It should be rules of a private company but not policies of a democratic country that should be subject to change without prior notice.
