Slumdog Millionaire
Just another movie
Leaving the hype and hoopla surrounding it, Slumdog Millionaire is just another movie based on the rags to riches theme. If not for the Hollywood names involved, the movie wouldn't have made it to the Oscars.
No doubt, A.R. Rahman's O Saya is one of his best compositions, but there are a number of his own compositions that sound better and passionate than Jai Ho. The background score of the movie is good but not the greatest. However, the screenplay of the movie is tight and ties the audience to their seats.
Slumdog depicts Mumbai slums brilliantly, but the story of two brothers, who have different outlook towards life, was a regular theme in Indian cinema during 1980s. The casting is good, but slum characters speaking in English is a bit odd. Of course! that is something unavoidable.
The film carries a hell lot of glaring errors that made my viewing a bit uncomfortable. Check them on IMDB website. The climax, where the show is broadcast live, is a big disappointment.
On the whole, Slumdog Millionaire is just another movie.

I agree with your take. And I am not sure the trains were blue-coloured back then.
